Ford Issues Recall for 1.7 Million SUVs Over Backup Camera Issues
Two separate rearview camera recalls, as well as a windshield wiper recall, account for more than two million vehicles recalled in one day from the Blue Oval.

Ford recalled 1.73 million SUVs over faulty backup cameras, which can either flip the image or fail to show it entirely.
Separately, the automaker issued a recall for 604,533 SUVs because the windshield wiper motor may fail.\nThe recall populations cover Ford and Lincoln SUVs that span from the 2020 model year through the 2026 model year.\nNew cars are complicated, and building them requires a massive collective effort from scores of engineers. Given the thousands of parts involved, it’s no wonder that things go wrong occasionally. Still, Ford’s recent history with recalls has been nothing short of abysmal. The automaker just issued another spate of recalls covering more than two million vehicles in one day.\n\nFord\nTwo of the new Ford recalls concern the rearview camera. The first covers 849,310 SUVs and stems from an Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM), which may overheat and shut down. When the APIM is shut down, the rearview camera image won’t display in the car while in reverse. It covers the Ford Edge and Explorer, as well as the Lincoln Navigator and Corsair. According to the recall documents, the infotainment screen display may flip or invert immediately after turning on the vehicle. That issue extends to things like on-screen buttons, camera guidelines, and the rearview camera imagery. According to the documents, the issue stems from a pulse on the Integrated Circuit data bus, which rewrites a register in the display microcontroller.\n\nLincoln\nA third recall, filed on the same day, covers 604,533 Ford and Lincoln SUVs whose windshield wiper motors may fail. The population of the third recall includes the Ford Explorer and Escape, as well as the Lincoln Aviator and Corsair. According to the related documents, the windshield wiper motor’s cover terminal on affected models may have been improperly aligned during production. Over time, the misalignment creates a poor connection and results in a degraded electrical continuity—eventually leading to the wipers not working at all.\n\nRegarding the rearview camera-related recalls, there isn’t a remedy in place yet. Ford is currently working on new software for both recalls and will notify dealers when a fix becomes available. Fortunately, regarding the windshield wiper recall, the automaker is planning to notify owners in May that they can bring their vehicle to a Ford dealer to have their wiper motors inspected and replaced as needed.
