Unpacking the Engineering Enhancements: LT2 vs. LS6 The shift from the LT2 to the LS6 is far more than a simple badge swap; it represents a fundamental re-engineering of the Corvette’s powertrain, resulting in a substantial surge in performance metrics. The most immediately striking improvement is the power output. The new LS6 catapults the Stingray to 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. Over time, small carbon particles from the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system can deposit on the backside of these valves, leading to potential performance degradation and increased emissions. By reintroducing port injection, Chevrolet adds a critical maintenance function to the engine’s operation. Under light loads and partial throttle conditions—typical of daily driving—the engine utilizes port injection. The atomized fuel from the injectors flows over the intake valves, effectively “washing” them clean of accumulating soot. While this doesn’t eliminate carbon buildup entirely, it significantly mitigates the issue, helping the engine maintain its peak performance and efficiency for longer between services. The exhaust system has also been refined to manage the increased power output and provide an auditory experience befitting the Corvette badge. The standard exhaust configuration features four exhaust tips, split evenly with two exiting on each side of the rear bumper. For those seeking an even more aggressive soundtrack, an optional performance exhaust system is available. This system also utilizes four tips, but all four are centrally located beneath the rear fascia. The C8 Evolution: A Winning Formula Refined Since its dramatic mid-engine transformation for the 2020 model year, the Chevrolet Corvette has been on an upward trajectory of excellence.
