With its steeply raked tailgate, absence of a traditional D-pillar, and a modest 6.1 inches of ground clearance—comparable to many sedans—its silhouette leans toward a midsize hatchback. However, this design choice is a deliberate homage to the Giugiaro-designed Hyundai Pony concept of decades past, blending retrofuturistic 8-bit aesthetics with sharp, modern lines. The result is one of the most visually striking mainstream vehicles to debut in recent memory, a masterclass in nostalgic yet forward-thinking design that resonates deeply with Gen X and Gen Y sensibilities.
The interior design continues this theme of intelligent innovation, even if some observers wished for a more daring cabin aesthetic to match the exterior’s bold statements.
